Which States Have the Most MPH Programs?

New York (56), California (50), Pennsylvania (25) have the most of the 488 MPH programs on this site. Wyoming has no in-state MPH, so residents there study online or across the border. Every state page compares its schools, estimated tuition, program sizes and public health pay.

What the State Numbers Show

  • Lowest typical tuition: Puerto Rico (median $205 per credit), Oklahoma (median $245 per credit) and Nevada (median $383 per credit), among states with at least three MPH programs that publish a per-credit rate. The highest: Louisiana ($1,841), Pennsylvania ($1,305) and New York ($1,270).
  • Highest epidemiologist pay: Massachusetts ($115,890), District of Columbia ($112,370) and California ($110,760). The most epidemiologist jobs: California (1,480), Texas (1,160) and Washington (1,010) (BLS, May 2025).
  • Online changes the map: an online MPH at a school in another state is open to you wherever you live, as long as the school can enroll residents of your state. Start with online MPH programs or the program matcher.
