Matching Connecticut’s MPH Programs to Your Situation

Five Connecticut schools have CEPH-accredited MPH programs, and they differ more in format and price than in name.

• Yale is the research-heavy, high-cost choice. The two-year MPH is 20 course units with a required public health practice experience, at $57,256 a year in 2026-27 plus a $675 program fee. If you already hold a doctorate in a related field, or a master’s and two years of relevant work, the Advanced Professional MPH finishes in 11 months for $71,570.
• UConn teaches its MPH at UConn Health in Farmington: 48 credits in Interprofessional Public Health Practice, with a two-semester, 6-credit practicum and a 3-credit capstone. It has held CEPH accreditation as an MPH since 1985. You apply through the UConn Graduate School, not SOPHAS.
• Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, the other public option, offers an Executive MPH in Management and Leadership and an MPH in Health Promotion, each online or on ground, with a supervised field placement. It awarded 52 public health master’s degrees in 2022-23.
• Fairfield University runs a fully online 42-credit MPH at $960 per credit for 2026-27, in 15 to 28 months.
• Sacred Heart University offers a 42-credit MPH on campus or hybrid at $750 per credit, and you can finish in one year full time on its accelerated plan.

The joint online MPH from the University of Bridgeport and Goodwin University is the fastest-moving option, with 7-week terms and a 12 to 15-month track, but it is an applicant for CEPH accreditation, not accredited. The CEPH accreditation guide explains why that matters for some government jobs.

What Residency Saves at UConn

UConn is the clearest in-state bargain in Connecticut. For 2026-27, a full-time semester of 9 or more credits costs $10,195 for Connecticut residents and $21,151 for out-of-state students, with fees included.

UConn also pays some students to study. The Hansen Fellowship, named for the program’s founding director, covers tuition and a stipend for one nominated student each year. As many as 10 students a semester work as course assistants in foundational classes, earning $5,000 per course per semester.

If you already work in a Connecticut health department, look at Yale’s Executive MPH. Its YSPH Civil Service Award is a competitive 50% tuition scholarship for one Executive MPH student employed by a federal, state, local or tribal government. Connecticut Certifies Community Health Workers

Connecticut’s Department of Public Health issues a formal community health worker certificate. You can qualify two ways: complete training from a program approved by the Community Health Worker Advisory Body and log 1,000 hours of CHW work in the three years before you apply, or document 2,000 hours of paid or unpaid CHW experience. Either way you need a reference from an employer and one from a community member, and the online application costs $100.

That matters if you supervise or hire CHWs after your MPH, or if you are a working CHW using the degree to move up. Connecticut has about 290 community health worker jobs at a median of $53,560. The community health worker career guide covers the national picture.
