Dartmouth or SNHU: Two Very Different Private Options
New Hampshire has no public university MPH, so both choices are private nonprofits. They’re built for different students.
Dartmouth is the small-cohort MPH. The accelerated on-campus MPH takes 11 months in Hanover in a class of 50 to 60, with an internship or independent research project. The online and hybrid MPH takes 22 months, either fully online or with five week-long sessions on campus, in a class of 35 to 45. SNHU is the high-volume, working-adult MPH. Its online MPH runs in 10-week terms, takes 42 credits, needs no GRE and admits directly rather than through SOPHAS. You choose a general MPH or a global health concentration. The practice requirement is at least 120 hours over two terms in a public health setting in the United States, with virtual placements available. SNHU awarded 442 public health master’s degrees in 2022-23, the most in the state and far more than Dartmouth’s 172 (IPEDS).
