Dual MD/MPH Program

Program Highlights

NYU Grossman School of Medicine, in collaboration with NYU’s College of Global Public Health, offers a dual MD/Master of Public Health (MPH) in Global Health. This program is designed for medical students seeking to augment their clinical training with comprehensive public health knowledge and skills.

The curriculum focuses on social and behavioral science, community and international health, epidemiology, public health principles, and policy management. The program aims to equip students with the expertise to address complex population health challenges on a global scale.

Delivery Modes

The MD/MPH program is delivered on-campus and structured for full-time study. Students dedicate their third year primarily to MPH coursework. During the fourth year, students complete the MPH seminar and capstone requirements through evening classes while also fulfilling MD degree requirements.

Curriculum Overview

The MPH degree component requires 40 credits. Core MPH coursework is concentrated in the third year of the dual degree program. Key areas of study include:

• Social and behavioral science

• Community and international health

• Epidemiology

• Public health

• Policy management

The program includes an MPH Applied Practice Experience Seminar and an MPH Integrative Learning Experiences Seminar, typically completed in the fourth year.

Admissions Requirements

Students currently enrolled in the MD program at NYU Grossman School of Medicine can apply to the dual MD/MPH program. Applications are typically submitted during the second year of medical school.

Cost & Financial Aid

Students enrolled primarily in MPH courses pay the equivalent of one year of MPH tuition to the NYU bursar. While MD tuition at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is covered by a scholarship for eligible students maintaining satisfactory academic progress, the MPH portion of the dual degree has separate tuition costs.
