Dual MPH/PA Program at Yale University Program Overview 2025

Program Highlights & Accreditation

Yale University School of Medicine offers a PA/MPH joint degree program. This unique program allows individuals interested in pursuing clinical and public health training to complete both degree programs in 39 months.

The goal of this program is to expose students to the core competencies requisite to shape both local and global health systems as physician assistants and policy makers.

The MPH curriculum is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) does not accredit the Public Health curriculum associated with the PA/MPH joint degree.

Delivery Modes

The PA/MPH joint degree program is an on-campus, full-time program. The structured curriculum spans 39 months, integrating studies at both the Yale School of Public Health and the Yale School of Medicine PA program.

Curriculum Overview

Students must choose the area of academic concentration for the public health portion of their training. The four areas of specialization include:

  • Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases

  • Chronic Disease Epidemiology

  • Social and Behavioral Sciences

  • Health Policy (capstone project required)

The 39-month joint degree program follows a structured timeline:

  • Year 1: Students spend the first three semesters (fall/spring/summer) enrolled in the School of Public Health MPH program.

  • Year 2: The next three semesters (fall/spring/summer) are dedicated to enrollment in the Yale School of Medicine PA program.

  • Year 3: The third year involves a split commitment between YSPH, where students complete their MPH thesis, and the PA Program for clinical rotations.

  • Year 4: In the fall of the fourth year, students are enrolled in The School of Medicine PA Program.

Both the Master of Medical Science Degree and the Master of Public Health Degree are conferred in December upon completion of the program.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants must apply to and be accepted by both the PA Program and the Yale School of Public Health. Applications for both programs must be submitted during the same admissions cycle (April - December of each year). Interested individuals are encouraged to apply to both programs as early as possible.

For detailed application information, prospective students should consult the respective admissions pages:
