Dual MPH/PharmD Program at Wingate University Program Overview 2025
Program Highlights & Accreditation
Wingate University offers a dual degree program where students can earn a Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) and a Master of Public Health (MPH). This dual degree can be completed in just four years. The MPH program component has an emphasis in health education and promotion, designed to equip pharmacists for the evolving healthcare landscape where prevention is emphasized over treatment, and care increasingly takes place in home or community settings.
Beyond a pharmacology focus, graduates may find themselves administering vaccines, screening for diseases, and offering health coaching. The program prepares pharmacists to assess community health needs, help identify and implement systems for disease surveillance, and monitor health outcomes.
Accreditation: The Wingate University Department of Public Health is an applicant for accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). The accreditation review will address the Master of Public Health Program.
Delivery Modes
The MPH integrative curriculum, with its focus on health education and promotion, is delivered as a flexible, online (asynchronous and synchronous) degree pathway. This complements the PharmD curriculum, allowing students to complete both degrees within four years.
Curriculum Overview
Dual-degree students begin taking public health courses at the beginning of their second year in the School of Pharmacy, typically enrolling in one or two MPH-specific courses each semester. The PharmD curriculum design offers hands-on experience through a longitudinal skills lab, continual immersion in community healthcare outreach, and real-world application through pharmacy rotations every year. The dual degree program plan of study allows for PharmD transfer credits to be applied to the MPH program. For more details, see the PharmD + MPH Plan of Study .
Admissions Requirements
Applicants should complete the online PharmD/MPH application by July 15, 2025. Key components include:
Select the MPH program via the application portal and indicate application to the dual degree program.
Submit an updated resume and a personal statement (500-1000 words) describing motivation for the dual degree program, future career aspirations, and how academic, professional, and personal experiences have prepared for this opportunity.
Admission to the PharmD/MPH program is dependent upon a recommendation from the Wingate University School of Pharmacy and successful continuation in PharmD coursework.
Previously submitted PharmCAS application and Wingate University unofficial transcripts will be used as part of the dual degree program admissions review process.
Career & Practical Experience
The MPH component equips students with an understanding of informatics, program design, and evaluation. Dual degree students interact with accomplished public health faculty and community partners, who provide mentorship and robust applied practice experiences. This prepares them as future healthcare professionals with public health knowledge and skills. Wingate's Public Health Club offers additional opportunities for involvement in health-related community service and advocacy.
