Dual Degree MPH Program at Stockton University Program Overview 2025
Program Highlights & Accreditation
The Dual BS in Health Science/Master of Public Health (BSHS/MPH) Degree Program at Stockton University is designed to educate and train public health leaders to address the needs of populations and communities. The program combines an undergraduate BS in Health Science, which provides an interdisciplinary educational experience in healthcare and interprofessional collaboration, with a Master of Public Health (MPH). Public health focuses on preventing disease, promoting quality of life, protecting population health, identifying root causes of health issues, and engaging stakeholders.
Stockton University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The MPH program will seek accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), the nationally recognized body for public health programs.
Delivery Modes
The MPH courses within the dual degree program are delivered in an online/hybrid format. One course, PUBH 5104 Public Health Practice: Leadership and Personal Mastery, includes in-person sessions on two weekends at Stockton’s Atlantic City campus. The dual degree program is structured as a full-time, accelerated pathway.
Curriculum Overview
The Master of Public Health (MPH) program component comprises 42 graduate credits. Core areas of study include:
Introduction to Public Health
Biostatistics
Epidemiology
Community Assessment, Planning, and Evaluation
Community Health Education and Promotion
Environmental and Occupational Health
Health Disparities and Health Equity
Global Health
Health Care Economics and American Healthcare Policy
Public Health Practice (Leadership, Research, Current Issues, Grant Writing)
The program includes an Applied Practice Experience (internship of approximately 200 hours) and an Integrative Learning Experience. In the dual degree program, up to six MPH courses (18 graduate credits) can also fulfill undergraduate requirements, effectively double-counting.
Admissions Requirements (for BSHS/MPH Dual Degree)
Students may apply to the BSHS/MPH accelerated dual degree program upon or after admission to Stockton University as first-year or transfer students. Current BSHS students are advised to declare their concentration by the beginning of their second year. To be eligible to enroll in graduate (5000-level) MPH courses, students must meet the following requirements:
Minimum of 96 undergraduate credits completed.
Minimum of 20 credits in undergraduate BSHS major courses.
Minimum of 2.0 GPA in the BSHS major.
Successful completion of Introduction to the Health Sciences (HLTH 1101).
Transfer students are eligible. Students with over 96 transfer credits might consider the "Direct Entry" application for the MPH.
Career & Practical Experience
Graduates are prepared for leadership roles in diverse public health settings, including state or local health departments, federal health agencies, voluntary health agencies, public utilities, private industry, consulting firms, hospitals, nursing homes, community health centers, health insurance companies, and health maintenance organizations.
Dual degree students complete an Applied Practice Experience (internship), typically involving 200 contact hours. This experience provides real-world application of public health practices and can take place in community-based organizations, health care agencies, academic settings, non-profit organizations, or governmental agencies.
