Dual MPH/MD Program at Saint Louis University Program Overview 2025
Program Highlights & Accreditation
Saint Louis University offers a dual Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) and Medical Doctor (M.D.) degree program. This program is conducted jointly by the College for Public Health and Social Justice and the School of Medicine.
The College for Public Health and Social Justice, which houses the M.P.H. program component, is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
Delivery Modes
The M.P.H. component of this dual degree is an accelerated program.
Students complete the M.P.H. coursework full-time over three consecutive semesters (summer, fall, spring). This intensive period is dedicated entirely to public health studies.
The program's structure, integrated with the M.D. curriculum, implies an on-campus delivery format for the M.P.H. year.
Curriculum Overview
The M.P.H. degree component requires 42 credits and features a concentration in Public Health Practice.
Up to six credits of coursework from the School of Medicine M.D. degree requirements may be applied towards the M.P.H. degree.
Students typically enter the one-year M.P.H. program after successfully completing the first three years of medical studies. They then return to the School of Medicine to complete their fourth year of M.D. studies.

Admissions Requirements
To pursue this dual degree, students must meet the admission requirements and be admitted into both the M.P.H. program (through the College for Public Health and Social Justice) and the M.D. program (through the School of Medicine).
Individuals may apply to the M.P.H. program concurrently with their application to the School of Medicine or during the first two years of medical studies.
Admission to the dedicated M.P.H. year is contingent upon successfully completing the first three years of medical studies, including all required clinical clerkships and steps one and two of the United States Medical License Examination (USMLE).
Career & Practical Experience
The M.P.H. program's concentration in Public Health Practice is designed to equip students with the skills for applying public health principles in real-world settings, complementing their medical training.
