Florida International University's Online Master of Public Health (MPH) program is a highly respected offering from a top-tier public research institution, holding the highest Carnegie Classification. Delivery Modes

The MPH program is delivered fully online in an asynchronous format, providing flexibility for students. It accommodates both full-time and part-time learners, allowing working professionals to pursue their graduate degree while employed.

Curriculum Overview

The program requires the completion of 45 credit hours with a minimum 'B' (3.0) average. Public Health Core courses must be passed with a 'B' or higher. The curriculum includes:

• Public Health Core Courses (15 credits): PHC 6000 Epidemiology I, PHC 6052 Biostatistics I, PHC 6102 Health Policy in a Global Context, PHC 6315 Introduction to Environmental Health Sciences, PHC 6410 Health Behavior and Public Health.

• Online General Core Courses (15 credits): PHC 6055 Data Management and Applied Epidemiologic Analysis, PHC 6104 Public Health Management and Leadership, PHC 6113 Community Health Promotion Planning and Research, PHC 6536 Health Demography, PHC 6600 Health Promotion Communication.

• Elective Courses (9 credits): Students select from advised graduate public health electives such as PHC 6009 AIDS Epidemiology, PHC 6355 Environmental Health and Safety, or other faculty-approved 6000 level courses.

• Practicum and Culminating Experience (6 credits): PHC 6945 Practicum in Public Health (200 hours) and PHC 6930C Integrative Seminar in Public Health. The practicum may be waived for students with at least three years of relevant full-time public health practice experience, with an approved 3-credit course substituted.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants must meet FIU's general graduate admission requirements. Key requirements include:

• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university (international applicants require WES-verified equivalent).

• A minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 credits of upper-level undergraduate coursework.

• For international students: Proof of English language proficiency (e.g., TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 110) and a course-by-course NACES credential evaluation.

• Submission of the SOPHAS application, a current resume, a written statement of purpose, three letters of recommendation, official transcripts from all institutions attended, and the FIU Graduate Admissions Supplemental Application.

• No GRE is required.

Admission deadlines are June 1st for Fall admission and October 1st for Spring admission.

Cost & Financial Aid

The estimated program cost is $27,000, at $600 per credit hour for the 45-credit program. Note that State Tuition Waivers do not apply to this program. The Online MPH program prepares students for a variety of careers supporting public health, enhancing the skills of professionals in the healthcare sector, including physicians, dentists, and other practitioners. Graduates are equipped for roles that involve investigating disease distribution, understanding social and environmental health determinants, planning and evaluating public health programs, and influencing policy development. The program includes a 200-hour practicum (PHC 6945), which provides hands-on experience. This requirement may be waived for students with substantial prior public health experience. Students must contact the program at least two semesters prior to registering for the practicum to plan their experience.
