Curriculum Overview

The program requires the completion of 45 credit hours with a minimum 'B' (3.0) average. Public Health Core courses must be passed with a 'B' or higher. The curriculum includes:

  • Public Health Core Courses (15 credits): PHC 6000 Epidemiology I, PHC 6052 Biostatistics I, PHC 6102 Health Policy in a Global Context, PHC 6315 Introduction to Environmental Health Sciences, PHC 6410 Health Behavior and Public Health.

  • Online General Core Courses (15 credits): PHC 6055 Data Management and Applied Epidemiologic Analysis, PHC 6104 Public Health Management and Leadership, PHC 6113 Community Health Promotion Planning and Research, PHC 6536 Health Demography, PHC 6600 Health Promotion Communication.

  • Elective Courses (9 credits): Students select from advised graduate public health electives such as PHC 6009 AIDS Epidemiology, PHC 6355 Environmental Health and Safety, or other faculty-approved 6000 level courses.

  • Practicum and Culminating Experience (6 credits): PHC 6945 Practicum in Public Health (200 hours) and PHC 6930C Integrative Seminar in Public Health. The practicum may be waived for students with at least three years of relevant full-time public health practice experience, with an approved 3-credit course substituted.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants must meet FIU's general graduate admission requirements. Key requirements include:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university (international applicants require WES-verified equivalent).

  • A minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 credits of upper-level undergraduate coursework.

  • For international students: Proof of English language proficiency (e.g., TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 110) and a course-by-course NACES credential evaluation.

  • Submission of the SOPHAS application, a current resume, a written statement of purpose, three letters of recommendation, official transcripts from all institutions attended, and the FIU Graduate Admissions Supplemental Application.

  • No GRE is required.

Admission deadlines are June 1st for Fall admission and October 1st for Spring admission.
