Program Highlights & Accreditation
The Master of Public Health (MPH) program at Youngstown State University is part of the Consortium of Eastern Ohio Master of Public Health (CEOMPH), a multidisciplinary, interinstitutional collaboration involving The University of Akron, Cleveland State University, and the Northeastern Ohio Medical University (NEOMED). The program is designed for working professionals and aims to produce competent public health practitioners to improve public health, particularly in eastern Ohio. Unique features include elective courses available at any partner university. An accelerated 4+1 Bachelor of Science in Applied Science/Master of Public Health option allows students to earn their MPH in one year after completing their undergraduate degree. The MPH program is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
Delivery Modes
Core courses are delivered through a flexible distance learning format, utilizing webinar and online teaching, typically offered on Saturdays to accommodate working professionals. Students can take elective courses at any of the partner universities. The program supports both part-time study and full-time progression, including an accelerated 4+1 track.
Curriculum Overview
The MPH program requires 42 semester hours for completion. The curriculum includes core courses in Public Health Concepts, Social and Behavioral Sciences in Public Health, Epidemiology in Public Health, Biostatistics in Public Health, Health Services Administration in Public Health, and Policy and Environmental Health Sciences in Public Health. Students in the Generalist Track take additional courses such as Grant Writing in Public Health Practice, Public Health Practice and Issues, and Public Health Research and Evaluation. The program also includes directed electives, an MPH practicum (internship), and a two-part capstone project. A portfolio and an exit presentation are also required. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Admissions Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Minimum GPA of 2.75. Applicants with a GPA lower than 3.0 must submit acceptable GRE scores (taken within the last five years).
GRE may be waived for applicants with a relevant professional degree or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. DAT, GMAT, MCAT, or PCAT scores may be substituted.
Successful completion of a college-level mathematics or statistics course, and a college social science or natural science course.
TOEFL scores for applicants from countries where English is not the language of instruction.
Two years of work experience in a relevant field is highly recommended.

Annual tuition and fees for graduate students are approximately $13,560 for in-state students and $13,920 for out-of-state students. For international applicants, total estimated tuition is $16,321 for a 16-month option and $18,524 for a 24-month option. Additional estimated annual costs include room and board ($10,920), and books and supplies ($1,200). Health insurance (approx. $1,420) is required for international students.
