Dual MPH/MSW Program at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Program Overview 2025
Program Highlights & Accreditation
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee offers a coordinated Master of Social Work (MSW) and Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program. This interdisciplinary program is designed for students seeking to acquire advanced knowledge and skills in both public health and social work. The curriculum focuses on addressing the effects of social, economic, and health disparities on the well-being of individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. The social work (MSW) component of this dual degree is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Board of Accreditation.
Delivery Modes
The MSW/MPH program is delivered on-campus. Students in this coordinated degree program must be enrolled full-time.
Curriculum Overview
Students in the coordinated MPH-MSW degree program complete public health and social work courses concurrently. The program requires 48-49 credits in public health. For social work, students with a BSW complete 34 credits, while those without a BSW (or needing foundation coursework) complete 56 credits. Students choose one of two public health concentrations: Community and Behavioral Health Promotion or Public Health Policy. The curriculum integrates a public health lens of population-level prevention with a social work lens of intervention at all levels of society. A key component is an integrated public health/social work field experience, in addition to the Social Work field placement.
