Program Highlights & Accreditation
The University of Vermont (UVM) offers a Master of Public Health (MPH) program designed to prepare skilled and versatile graduates dedicated to improving public health through practice, research, education, and leadership. Students can choose a generalist MPH or an MPH with a concentration in Global Health Leadership. Delivery Modes
The MPH program is delivered 100% online in an asynchronous format, offering flexibility for students to balance studies with other commitments. Students can pursue the program on a full-time or part-time basis. Full-time students can complete the program in as few as 15 months, while part-time students may take up to five years.
Curriculum Overview
The MPH degree requires a total of 42 credits. The curriculum structure includes:
18 credits of national competency core courses (6 courses)
9 credits in required advanced core courses (3 courses)
9 elective course credits (3 courses)
6 credits of required culminating project experience
The culminating project experience comprises an Applied Practice Experience (APE) and an Integrative Learning Experience (ILE). The APE is a one-credit, work-based learning experience at a public health organization. The ILE requires students to conduct real-world public health research, culminating in a group manuscript and poster presentation.
Admissions Requirements
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Prerequisite coursework includes one semester of college biology or other science course, and one course in college algebra, statistics, or a more advanced math course. Required application materials include a resume or CV and a statement of experiences and goals. International applicants must submit TOEFL scores. The GRE is not required for admission. Students must maintain a 3.00 GPA for program completion. Advancement to candidacy requires successful completion of any prerequisite courses and at least 15 graded graduate credits with a 3.00 GPA or better, including all core courses.
