The University of New Haven's Master of Public Health (MPH) program is distinguished as one of the most innovative in the United States. Curriculum Overview

The 42-credit program provides a broad and practical interdisciplinary training. The core curriculum covers key areas such as epidemiology, biostatistics, social and behavioral sciences, healthcare administration, and environmental health. Advanced coursework delves into contemporary public health issues including global health, healthcare leadership, public health ethics, public health law, and public health practice, planning, and evaluation.

Students can choose from specialized tracks in Global Health, Health Education and Promotion, or Health Informatics. A customizable general track is also available, allowing students to tailor their studies with an advisor. The program integrates coursework with practical application through field experiences, capstone projects, and other educational, research, and service activities. Elective courses allow students to further explore their interests within public health.

Admissions Requirements

The MPH program employs a holistic review process for applications. No GRE or GMAT scores are required. Key application materials include:

• An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher from an accredited institution (most matriculating students meet this).

• A 1-2 page statement of purpose.

• Two letters of recommendation (professional or academic references).

• A current resume or CV.

• Current TOEFL or other language exam scores (for non-native English speakers).

Career & Practical Experience

Graduates are prepared with broad technical skills and organizational competencies for diverse public health settings, including government agencies, NGOs, hospitals, research institutions, and community health programs. Sample job titles include Health Information Specialist, Hospital Administrator, Community Health Program Manager, Public Health Director, Health Promotion/Education Specialist, Public Health Nutritionist, Data Analyst, and Research Associate.

The program provides opportunities to develop career-building skills such as counseling, resume writing, and interview training, supported by faculty and alumni mentors. Real-world experiences emphasize cultural competence and diversity. All students have access to the University of New Haven’s nationally recognized Career Development Center, which offers resources from career assessments and networking to on-campus interviews and salary negotiation.
