Joint BS/MPH Program at University of Michigan-Flint Program Overview 2025
Program Highlights & Accreditation
The Joint Bachelor of Science/Master of Public Health (BS/MPH) program at the University of Michigan-Flint is tailored for undergraduate students in the College of Health Sciences interested in an accelerated path to an MPH degree. Students can complete the MPH with up to 17 fewer credits than if it were pursued separately.
The MPH component, detailed further on the Master of Public Health program page , offers two concentration options: Health Administration and Health Education.
The Public Health Programs at the University of Michigan-Flint received accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) in June 2021. The accreditation term extends until July 1, 2026. The final self-study and reviewer’s report are available by request at [email protected] .
Delivery Modes & Flexibility
The joint program courses, including those for the MPH, are offered in a variety of delivery formats such as face-to-face, evenings, mixed-mode, and online. The MPH program can be completed 100% online if students choose this option.
Students can pursue the program on a part-time or full-time basis. Some classes utilize Hyperflex technology, allowing students to choose weekly whether to attend in-person or online synchronously, providing significant flexibility.
Curriculum and Practical Experience
In this joint program, specific undergraduate courses can be double-counted towards the MPH degree, with the number of shared credits (ranging from 10 to 17) varying by the undergraduate major. The BS and MPH degrees are awarded independently upon completion of their respective requirements. An additional benefit is that students complete graduate courses at the undergraduate tuition rate while enrolled in the joint program.
The MPH curriculum emphasizes practical application, requiring students to complete an internship and a capstone project. These experiences allow students to develop health-related projects for community agencies, building resume-worthy skills.
