Combined Bachelors/MPH Program at University of Florida Program Overview 2025

Program Highlights

The Combination Bachelor’s/MPH degree program at the University of Florida is designed for exceptional UF undergraduate students from any major with a genuine interest in public health. This program allows students to begin their graduate education early by taking approved graduate MPH courses during their junior and senior undergraduate years. A key benefit is that a minimum of 9 and a maximum of 15 graduate-level credits can count towards both the bachelor's and MPH degrees, significantly reducing the time and cost to obtain two separate degrees.

Delivery Modes

This is a combination degree program. The bachelor's degree component is completed on-campus as per UF undergraduate requirements. For the MPH component, students can typically choose from on-campus or online formats, aligning with the delivery options of their chosen MPH concentration. The program structure allows for an accelerated completion of the MPH degree.

Curriculum Overview

Students in the combination program apply to one of five primary MPH concentrations: Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Population Health Management, or Social and Behavioral Sciences. Between 9 and 15 graduate-level credits taken during the undergraduate junior/senior years count towards both degrees. After completing the bachelor's degree, students transition to graduate status and complete the remaining 33 credits of the MPH program, typically within three semesters (one year). The total MPH curriculum aligns with the standard requirements for the chosen concentration. Recommended plans of study are available. For detailed MPH program requirements, students can refer to the MPH Core Competencies page.

Admissions Requirements

Eligibility for the Combination Bachelor's/MPH program includes:

  • Current UF undergraduate student, sophomore or junior by credit (Sophomore: 30-60 credits completed; Junior: 60-90 credits completed).

  • Minimum overall UF GPA of 3.2 (competitive applicants typically have 3.6 or higher).

  • Completed prerequisite coursework: STA 2023, BSC 2005 or BSC 2010, and PSY 2012 with a grade of C or better (competitive applicants tend to have a B average or better in these courses).

The application process requires the following components:

Cost & Financial Aid

For information on tuition and fees associated with the MPH portion of the program, please refer to the official MPH Tuition and Fees page . Students in the combination degree program pay undergraduate tuition rates for MPH courses taken while still classified as undergraduates. Once transitioned to graduate status, standard graduate tuition rates apply.

Career & Practical Experience

The Combination Bachelor's/MPH program is designed to enhance a student's marketability, particularly for those preparing to apply to professional schools (e.g., medical, dental, veterinary). Completing the remaining MPH requirements in a gap year allows students to apply to professional programs with two degrees. The MPH degree equips students with a broader understanding of health issues at a population level, complementing clinical or other professional aspirations.
