Program Highlights & Accreditation
The Master of Public Health (MPH) program at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to protect and improve individual and community health at local, national, and global levels. The program emphasizes an innovative and flexible curriculum with a global perspective, delivered by experienced faculty in an intimate learning environment. Teaching goes beyond the classroom, immersing students in real-world challenges and creative thinking. TCNJ’s MPH program is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
Delivery Modes
The MPH program offers flexibility to accommodate diverse student needs. It can be completed full-time in approximately two years or part-time over four to six years. Classes are primarily offered on the TCNJ campus in the evenings (5:30 p.m. and later) in 2.5-hour blocks, catering to working professionals. Some courses are also available in online or hybrid (a mix of online and on-site) formats. Additionally, an accelerated BS/MPH 4+1 option is available for current TCNJ undergraduate students.
Curriculum Overview
The MPH degree requires the completion of 45 academic credits (15 courses). The curriculum is structured around:
Core Public Health Courses (15 credits): Covering foundational areas such as Environmental and Occupational Health, Health Systems and Policy, Intermediate Epidemiology, Biostatistics for Public Health, and Health Promotion.
Track-Specific Courses (15 credits): Students choose one of three specialized tracks: Epidemiology and Health Analytics, Health Communication, or Global Health, each with specialized coursework.
Elective Courses (9 credits): Allowing students to further customize their studies based on their interests.
Graduate Capstone (6 credits): Consisting of a Graduate Capstone Internship (minimum 120 hours) and an Integrative Paper/Portfolio, providing practical experience and a culminating academic project.
Admissions Requirements
Admission to the MPH program at TCNJ is selective. Decisions are based on:
A completed online application and all supplemental documents submitted by the appropriate deadline.
Evidence of achievement in appropriate undergraduate studies.
Strength of recommendations.
Other materials submitted with the application.
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is NOT required for admission to the MPH program.
