Dual PharmD/MPH Program at Samford University Program Overview 2025
Program Highlights & Accreditation
Samford University offers a joint PharmD/Master of Public Health (MPH) program designed to equip pharmacists with public health skills to care for entire populations. This initiative is a collaboration between McWhorter School of Pharmacy and Samford's School of Public Health. A key feature is credit sharing, allowing students to earn two degrees in a reduced amount of time. The MPH courses are delivered online and meet Quality Matters standards for course design. No specific programmatic accreditation (e.g., CEPH) for the MPH program is mentioned in the provided context.
Delivery Modes
The Master of Public Health (MPH) courses within this joint degree program are offered online.
Curriculum Overview
Students in the joint PharmD/MPH program are required to complete 30 credits of public health course work. Through credit sharing, the School of Public Health will apply 12 credits of pharmacy course work towards the MPH curriculum, and McWhorter School of Pharmacy will apply 4 credits of core public health course work towards pharmacy elective requirements. Students must complete the MPH within five academic years of their original admission to the MPH program. A detailed plan of study is available: PharmD/MPH Plan of Study (PDF) .
Admissions Requirements
Applicants must be accepted to both McWhorter School of Pharmacy and the School of Public Health. For the MPH portion, applicants must submit:
A completed School of Public Health joint degree application form
A resume reflecting work experience and other accomplishments (uploaded into the application).
The application deadline for the MPH portion is April 1. While a bachelor's degree is not required for admission to the joint program, it must be earned to complete more than 12 credit hours of the master's program. The MPH program welcomes students from all academic backgrounds. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in the MPH program to be in good standing.
Career & Practical Experience
The PharmD/MPH program aims to provide students with public health skills that complement their pharmacy degree, enabling them to care for entire populations and improve community health outcomes.
