General MPH Program at Northeast Ohio Medical University Program Overview 2025
Program Highlights & Accreditation
The Master of Public Health (MPH) program is offered through the Consortium of Eastern Ohio Master of Public Health (CEOMPH), a partnership involving Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), Cleveland State University, The University of Akron, and Youngstown State University. This collaborative structure provides a broad range of expertise and resources to students.
The CEOMPH program is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). The next accreditation site visit is scheduled for March 20-21, 2025.
Delivery Modes & Program Structure
The program is specifically designed for working professionals, offering flexibility to balance studies with existing commitments. Core courses and generalist track courses are delivered primarily through distance learning, utilizing webinar and online teaching methods.
Unique features include up to five non-mandatory interaction webinar days on Saturdays per semester, with all other instruction delivered online. The program offers a flexible completion timeline, ranging from 1 to 6 years, accommodating both full-time and part-time students.
Curriculum Overview
The MPH degree with a generalist track requires the completion of 42 semester credit hours. The curriculum is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of public health principles and practices.
Core components include six foundational courses (covering Public Health Concepts, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Services Administration, and Environmental Health Sciences), generalist track courses, elective courses, and a culminating capstone experience. The capstone involves a Public Health Practicum Project (Capstone Project I and II), an e-portfolio, and an exit presentation.
Students can choose elective courses from any of the partner universities. The curriculum integrates community-based projects within core courses to provide practical experience.
Admissions Requirements
To be considered for admission, applicants generally must:
Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution.
Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75.
Meet additional program-specific requirements detailed on the admissions page.
Applications are submitted through the Schools of Public Health Application Service (SOPHAS). Required materials include an application fee, official academic transcripts from all institutions attended, a personal statement, and two letters of recommendation.
Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) scores taken within the last five years may be required. However, the GRE requirement may be waived if the applicant has a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, or holds a professional degree (master's or doctorate) in a related field. Official results from other equivalent standardized tests (DAT, GMAT, MCAT, PDAT) taken within the last five years may be substituted. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores are required for graduates of institutions outside the U.S. who are non-native English speakers.
The program offers admission for Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Application deadlines for domestic students are typically April 15 for Summer admission, July 15 for Fall admission, and December 1 of the prior year for Spring admission. Due to the online/webinar-based curriculum, the program cannot issue student visas for study in the U.S., but may accept international students with certain existing visa statuses.
