Dual MD/MPH Program at Hofstra University Program Overview 2025
Program Highlights & Accreditation
The MD/MPH joint degree program is offered jointly by the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and the School of Health Sciences for students interested in acquiring public health knowledge and skills. The program's mission is to graduate physicians with an enhanced understanding of the social, behavioral, economic, and political determinants of health, and the skills necessary to apply this knowledge to improve the health of populations through leadership in patient care, research, education, health care policy analysis, and community empowerment. Accreditation information for the MPH component is not specified in the provided context.
Delivery Modes
The MD/MPH program is integrated into the on-campus MD program. Accepted MD/MPH students will take an additional year between their third and final (fifth) year of medical training to complete the majority of their MPH coursework full-time.
Curriculum Overview
MD/MPH students are required to complete 36 credit hours of public health core courses. This includes a 3-credit supervised field internship and a 3-credit supervised culminating research experience. Credit toward the MPH degree is granted based on components of the MD curriculum, such as the Patient, Physician and Society (including Initial Clinical Experience) and the Advanced Clinical Experience (ACE Continuity Clinic).
The MPH coursework is structured as follows:
