Program Highlights & Accreditation
The Dual MD/DO/MPH degree at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health offers select medical and osteopathic medical students the opportunity to complete a Master of Public Health (MPH) in conjunction with their MD/DO program. This residential 45-credit MPH program is designed for students currently enrolled in LCME -accredited Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine programs in the U.S. or Canada.
Students undertake the MPH program while on a leave of absence post-primary clinical year. The program can also serve as a required academic year for residency training in general preventive medicine, aerospace medicine, or occupational and environmental medicine. It is tailored for students with a strong interest in public health and/or preventive medicine who already possess a baccalaureate degree.
Delivery Modes
The Dual MD/DO/MPH program is offered on-campus with a Fall start. It is a full-time program designed to be completed in one year.
Curriculum Overview
The MPH component of the dual degree is a 45-credit residential program. Dual MD/DO/MPH applicants should apply to one of the following fields of study:
Global Health
Health and Social Behavior
Health Management
Health Policy
Occupational and Environmental Health
Quantitative Methods
The curriculum includes core public health coursework and specialized study within the chosen field. Information on field education and practice suggests a practical experience component.
Admissions Requirements
Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree and be currently enrolled in an LCME-accredited MD or DO program in the U.S. or Canada. Students typically apply for the MPH program while on leave of absence post-primary clinical year.
All applications must be submitted through SOPHAS – the centralized application service for public health programs . The application deadline is December 1. In addition to the application, applicants must submit:
Standardized test scores (optional with guidance)
Three letters of reference
Resumé/curriculum vitae
Post-secondary transcripts or mark sheets (World Education Services credential evaluation for applicants with degrees from outside of the United States)
English language proficiency (TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo English Test), if applicable
