Combined BS/MPH Program at Florida State University Program Overview 2025

Program Highlights & Accreditation

Florida State University (FSU) offers a BS-MPH Combined Pathway for academically talented undergraduate students. This pathway allows students to count up to 12 graduate credit hours toward both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees, enabling them to complete both degrees expeditiously and save on time and tuition expenses. The pathway is designed to increase career opportunities.

The FSU Public Health programs (Bachelor's and Master's) are accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), as indicated by program materials (e.g., image filename 'ceph-bach-mast-red-jpeg-3.png').

Delivery Modes

The BS-MPH Combined Pathway is designed for current FSU undergraduate students, implying an on-campus delivery for the shared coursework. The pathway facilitates an accelerated completion of both degrees. It is important to note that admission into the Combined Pathway does not grant admission into the MPH program; students must still apply to the MPH program separately.

Curriculum Overview

Students in the combined pathway can count up to 12 graduate credit hours toward both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Any grade lower than a “B” in these graduate courses will be ineligible to transfer for MPH credit.

Examples of BSPH – MPH Class Equivalents include:

  • PHC 4030 – Intro to Epidemiology (BSPH) counts as PHC 5001 or URP 5521 – Public Health Epidemiology (MPH)

  • PHC 4157 – Health Policy and Society (BSPH) counts as PHC 5155 – Health Services Organization & Policy (MPH)

  • PHC 4047 (prev 4320) – Environmental Health (BSPH) counts as PHC 5300 – Environmental Health (MPH)

  • PHC 4470 – Health Behavior and Promotion (BSPH) counts as PHC 5475 or URP 5525 – Health Behavior (MPH)

  • GIS Course (BSPH) can count as GIS 5101/L or URP 5272 (Electives for MPH only)

Note: Admission into the Combined Pathway forgoes any opportunity to apply or enroll in the Joint Pathway between Urban Regional Planning and Public Health. Any courses taken under the Combined Pathway are subject to approval for transfer to a program outside of the FSU MPH program.

Admissions Requirements (for the BS-MPH Pathway)

Eligibility requirements for the BS-MPH Combined Pathway are as follows:

  • Major: Any undergraduate major is eligible. Non-BSPH majors should contact Ms. Christine Abdelhadi ([email protected]) for more information.

  • Minimum 3.5 FSU GPA.

  • 90 credit hours of completed coursework (60 credit hours if an Honors student).

  • Minimum two semesters and 24 credit hours completed at FSU.

Deadlines to apply for the pathway: Spring - November 1st; Summer - March 15th; Fall - July 1st.

Important: Admission into the Combined Pathway does not grant admission into the MPH program. Students must still apply to the MPH program by the appropriate deadlines. For pathway application questions, email [email protected]. If accepted into the pathway, students must schedule an advising appointment with Ms. Christine Abdelhadi ([email protected]) prior to registering for MPH courses.
