Dual MPH/MBA Program at Dartmouth College Program Overview 2025

Program Highlights

The MBA/MPH joint degree program at Dartmouth, offered collaboratively by the Tuck School of Business and the Geisel School of Medicine, prepares graduates for leadership positions in both the private and public sectors of the health care industry. The program integrates Tuck's renowned leadership and management education with Geisel's expertise in public health research, health policy, clinical practice, and health care leadership.

Key features include support from the Center for Health Care at Tuck, which enhances student education and industry engagement, and a diverse student cohort at Geisel, comprising practicing clinicians, mid-career professionals, and recent bachelor's graduates.

Delivery Modes

This is a full-time, on-campus program. The intensive two-year structure, which includes an additional summer term for MPH coursework, allows students to complete both degrees in an accelerated timeframe.

Curriculum Overview

The joint degree program leads to a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, completed over two years. Students remain part of the same MBA class for the full two years.

  • Year 1: Students complete the full-time MBA core curriculum at the Tuck School of Business. This includes the TuckGO global experiential course requirement, which must be completed during the first year.

  • Year 2: Following a summer internship, students begin MPH coursework at the Geisel School of Medicine in early August. This year involves a blend of required and elective courses at both Tuck and Geisel.

  • Capstone: The program culminates in an MBA/MPH Leadership Capstone, an experiential learning project where students address a leadership or management issue, or develop proposals for interventions, research, or policy recommendations.

  • Electives: Students have access to a wide range of elective courses at both Tuck (over 100 options) and Geisel to tailor their studies.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the admission requirements for both the MBA program at Tuck and the MPH program at Geisel.

  • Application Process: Students can apply to both programs concurrently or apply to the MPH program during their first year of enrollment at Tuck.

  • Standardized Tests: Both Tuck and Geisel accept either the GMAT or the GRE.

  • MPH Application Deadline: For students applying during their first year at Tuck, the MPH application deadline is December 1.

Career & Practical Experience

Graduates are equipped for leadership roles across the health care industry.

  • Target Careers: Common career paths include consulting, roles in health care delivery organizations, and positions in various health-related industries.

  • Prior Experience: Prior experience in the health care sector is not a prerequisite for admission.

  • Summer Internship: Students typically undertake a summer internship after their first year at Tuck, before commencing MPH studies.

  • Practical Learning: The MBA/MPH Leadership Capstone offers a significant opportunity for hands-on, experiential learning through a self-designed project.
